Listening is the premiere communication vehicle in any
organization.
Yet, it’s dying a slow death on the vine in our modern business
culture. Think of it. The information age has blessed us with
the ability to impact an organization’s direction in a
heartbeat. But this same blessing of technology can be a true
curse. Blackberries…text messages…IM’s and emails often
flood a system with chatter making organizational listening
fairly impossible thanks to the technology of distraction.
How can today’s leaders fight the tide?
Never lose sight of your audience…even if he is 5,000 miles
away on the end of a teleconference! Listening is about people.
Boettinger(1975) created a management lens that may help leaders
simplyfy their own attempts to make listening a valued by people
in the organization again. His lens featured three views:
Vision, Craft and Communication.
Vision and Listening
Know what you want in your organization. What will it look like
when people begin to consciously choose to work on listening?
Spent time seeing the difference in meetings you lead. How will
you raise the awareness of the skill? Who can help you?
These are questions that can shape a vision for listening in the
organization, a real vision, and not just lip service. Spend time
creating a listening time line. It might be your own personal
time line. Then reflect on what the organizational timeline for
listening has been. A leader that does a simple audit which
includes talking to the rank and file about listening in their
own lives and in their business day is building the begining of
a vision that may at first be part of the oral culture. Shaping
the vision into a written tenet shows all that listening is not
taken for granted, and it is certainly held in high regard
through thoughts and action!
Crafting Listening
Now that there is awareness, begin the process of becoming
resilient listeners. Address skills of pausing and paraphrasing
in your own listening life. Be aware of how your emotions set
the course for your listening in meetings, and demonstrate this
for your colleagues. When fsced with conflict or a difficult
conversation in a meeting, learn to question rather then react.
Saying in an approachable voice, “So, tell me more about your
impression of my thinking…”, can open the door to listening
when you seem to be at a stand-off in a meeting. Pause before
you respond and paraphase even the most biting comment, and
finally, try to draw your colleagues into thinking bigger, even
without tension by asking open-ended questions like…” “What
hunches do you have about the response we have received from our
clients to date?”
Communicate Listening Power
Elevate the cause of listening in as many ways as possible.
Choose anvenues and forums for the language of listening to be
advanced. The three P’s of Listening: Pause, Paraphrase and
Probe can become banners for e-zines and newsletters. In one to
one meetings, set the intention to listen as a goal between the
two parties, direct managers to set this as a goal for review,
but allow training to weave the culture of listening together
before evaluating listening performance.
Just remember…research says that the teleconference you are
usually involved in is a garden of multitasking: people check
emails, sort messages, or write a memo as they “listen”. So how
can listening flourish when the vines of technology wrap
themselves around our conversation to the point of distraction?
The savvy leader becomes a conscious gardener who knows the
right balance of information and exchange, and who can, with
careful pruning. polish up the garden of communication through
purposeful listening in an organization.
Time banking is a relative new concept whose foundation is the exchange of services rather than currency. Even if it’s probable that time banking won’t replace monetary exchange very soon, it’s a fact that time banks have a large influence on communities and they are surely on the rise.
The basic idea of time banking is that everyone can contribute to the welfare of the community by making exchange of services with the others. As an example, if a person needs his car to be repaired, a second person needs flowers for his front yard and another person needs a new table for his kitchen, they could make a deal one with another, even if they don’t have the money to pay for these services. In order to make these kind of exchanges, people who generally don’t meet need to interact, and they need an infrastructure for doing this. This infrastructure is now here.
Time banking is based on time currencies, the units of time exchange. The name of the time currency is different from one time bank to another, but, in every situation, one hour of work has an equal value with one hour of any other kind of work.
The person who had the greatest influence on the time banking movement is Edgar Cahn, a former lawyer. While he was recovering after a heart attack he began thinking about the influence of the 80 hours of work a week on the relationships with his community and family, and imagining the terrible effects of medical emergencies on the uninsured and underinsured. In the 1980s Cahn made known his ideas and he created the concept named time banking, as a solution for these problems. After bringing the time banking concept to Maine, Cahn launched a pilot time bank here in 1998.
Time banking is expanding and time banks, such as Cahn’s Time Dollar networks, now exits in many states of the world, including every state of the U.S., Canada, Japan and Western Europe. For instance, in the U.K. there are more than 140 time banks which have more than 5,000 members. One of these time banks, Time For Health, has been so effective that the U.K.’s National Health Service has commissioned a study on how it works.
Offering equal pay for equal time, time banking has positive effects on women and people of color, whose work has been often under-compensated in the market economy. A proof is that Spain’s time banking movement’s slogan was in the beginning, “Sharing: Promoting the Equality of Time Among Men and Women”. Time banking is also used to offer medical care to the uninsured and underinsured, because many of the members earn too much money to receive free services, but they don’t get health insurance through their jobs.
Edgar Cahn has a new purpose: to create accessibility for groups that are deprived of their citizenship rights and to increase leaders’ consciousness of race and class issues in time banking.
This article and one-way link advertisement provided by http://www.LinkAcquire.com David C Skul is writing very fine banking articles, made to show you the advantages and disadvantages of using today’s banks. Also more information about banking and online banking you can find here.
Here’s a really good tip that may help you to get rid of your slice. Best of all, it’s really pretty simple once you get the hang of it, and understand why it’s being used.
Chances are that you have battled with a slice at some point in your golfing days. To be completely direct with you, dealing with a slice really sucks. It hurts your golf game in many more ways than one.
Luckily, it’s fairly easy to fix. I cannot claim that this small tip will completely cure your slice, but there’s a good chance that it will. I hope it does.
First off, please understand that when you come into the impact zone, there are really only 2 factors that can determine the “shape” of ball flight.
1. The angle of the club face at impact.
2. The Path the club is taking at impact.
So, here’s a few things you should concentrate on.
Try to keep your leading shoulder “down” on the ball through impact. This is called staying strong through impact. Many times the leading shoulder (left shoulder if right handed) flies up before impact. Now just for a minute, think about what that does to the club head when it’s in the impact zone.
Get up from the computer and actually go though the motions slowly. Let your leading shoulder fly up as you approach impact and you’ll actually be able feel and see the clubface coming from an outside-in path. That’s the cause of the slice you are battling.
See, golf is all about thinking and analyzing your shots to get better. A huge part of this game is understanding “why” you’re getting a certain result, and the physics behind that result. Thinking through your golf swing will provide huge dividends if you’re willing to invest the time it takes.
So what can you do to correct that flying shoulder? Well, for starters, try to learn to keep your leading shoulder strong. Keep that shoulder “Down” on the ball all the way through impact, even after the ball is gone and flying straight down the fairway.
So, after impact the leading shoulder is still down. The triangle between your shoulders and chest is still present. Most importantly, the body has NOT gotten ahead of the hands. This is a HUGE distinction. As you may notice, the left shoulder is actually higher than the right shoulder. So what do I mean when I say “leading shoulder down”?
You have to envision yourself from the back looking down on the ball. When I say “down”, I mean that the leading shoulder and chest is still facing the ball through impact.
So even though it may seem like the leading shoulder is higher than the trailing shoulder, it’s still facing the ball at impact. NOT TOWARDS THIRD BASE in comparison to the ball. If your leading shoulder was facing towards third base at impact, which would mean that you have let the leading shoulder fly up.
Furthermore, hand action is huge in this game. You must learn to release your hands correctly through the ball. This means that you release the hands while the leading shoulder is still “down”, or facing the ball.
The key is to let your arms release through the ball, while your left shoulder is “Down” on the ball. To do this you will need to rotate your forearms correctly, and use your leading ELBOW (not shoulder) as a hinge. So another way to explain this movement would be that your hands are still moving towards the target, but your leading elbow has almost stopped.
Keep the leading shoulder down and let your arms and hands release through the ball and you will see the ball go farther and higher. This will take a while to get used to, but once it clicks, the results will be outstanding.

I’m part of a group of five or six friends, who “physically” get together most weekends (as opposed to virtually). We also email each other, usually every few days, to generally trade jokes, share news, and discuss scheduling problems to do with when we are next getting together. We are starting to talk on Messenger too.
One Monday a few weeks ago, our emailing rate suddenly spiked to more than thirty emails in about twelve hours. Unfortunately this was a few days after someone new had just joined our group. Luckily she didn’t flee in terror, and things calmed down.
Things really NEEDED to calm down because most of the thirty plus emails were coming from a fight between two of my friends. I’ll call them Katrina and Chris.
Hopefully, reading this article won’t restart the fight. (If it does I’ll expect an angry email or two saying, ‘I won’t be coming on Sunday…or ever again.’)
Let me repeat. Email is wonderful, if used right. After the fight cooled down a little, Chris even mentioned that the nature of sending and receiving emails allows one to think before you reply, if you take the time.
If someone emails you and says you are an idiot, you can safely write the scathing reply you want to, full of all manner of the foulest insults and bad language. I recommend you write just such a vicious answer.
But write it with a word processor program, rather than directly into a blank email. You get all kinds of help with spelling, editing, and punctuation. It is massively embarrassing to get an email saying that you are an idiot, and then have even one misspelled word in your (meant to be) derisive reply.
The more important reason to write your reply in a word processor is that you can’t click ’send’ the moment you finish writing. You can’t fire it off without opening a new email and then ‘cut-and-pasting’ your acidic words into it, which gives you a minute to cool down.
Ideally, give yourself an hour or more to cool down in a situation as this. After half an hour, reread the email you are responding too. Did they say ‘you are an idiot’, or ‘you look like an idiot when you don’t spell check’?
If you hadn’t guessed already, Katrina and Chris didn’t take an hour, or even a few minutes to cool down before replying to each others emails. Usually, both are more sensible so maybe they just had an off-day on the same day. Or, maybe they had real and genuine complaints about each other that needed to be discussed and resolved.
Regardless of why they did it, they then traded a series of steadily more insulting emails, replying to each other without taking time to cool down. Our group received more than thirty emails. One email somehow got sent to ‘undisclosed recipients’, which sparked accusations of bizarre cover ups involving secretly sharing our private business with mysterious shadowy strangers.
Eventually they took their fight to a more private level, no longer ‘CC’ing their insults to the rest of us. In this private exchange I think the insults got even more vicious.
No longer getting ‘CC’ed emails, from either Chris to Katrina or Katrina to Chris, I thought that they both had calmed down and grown up. Then out of the blue, both of them emailed me offering to drop out of the group. We nearly lost them both because they couldn’t stand to be in the same room together after what they’d said in their rapid-fire emails. I spent days talking to them both on Messenger to sort it out. We did even lose Chris for a few weeks. However, I left the door open for him to return and eventually he did.
Email is a wonderful tool. But be careful, you can burn your bridges if you don’t use it with a cool head.

West Ham-Aston Villa
Premiership.
Unfortunately I like West Ham. The home team with full squad.
Villa is with more than full squad, as Baros (ex Liverpool) will probably starts.
West Ham boss Alan Pardew (100th game in charge of the Hammers): “We want to win things here, we are in good form.
Aston Villa boss David O’Leary: “The new players are quality players and it’s given us competition for places.”
West Ham - lost at home against Bolton in the previous round - have not suffered back-to-back defeats since two years.
My bet HOME win with bet365, the best English bookie.

An online business degree is a great choice for the individual who wants to get a leg up in the business world. There are several different types of business degrees for an individual to consider. The degree a person goes for, whether it be an online degree or a degree obtained in the traditional sense, should be one that most closely matches their area of interest and goals. It is also important to keep in mind when making a decision that degrees also have different levels such as associate, bachelor’s and master’s. Many who are looking to kick their professional life into high gear often obtain a combination of two or more different degrees.
When opting for a business degree, individuals will find themselves looking at earning a qualification in business management, accounting, finance or marketing. How long it takes to complete a degree program in any of these areas depends on what level of qualification a person wants. However, when it comes to online learning students often follow class assignments in syllabus forms. This means learning can take place at one’s own speed and getting a degree in a shorter amount of time than expected is a possibility. For those individuals already in the workforce, this can be especially helpful.
The addition of baby number 2, 3, or 10 is an occasion to celebrate for any family.
Just think how exciting it must be for your littlest one who is used to always being the younger brother to find out he’s going to be a big brother!
Though baby showers have traditionally been held for mommies-to-be only, times are changing and many people are having baby showers to celebrate the new baby’s whole family-to-be.
What better way to celebrate than to throw a baby shower party in their honor?! Grandparents or aunts or uncles can organize a baby party for the extended family and some close friends to mark the importance of the family unit.
Make a family tree to hang at the baby shower party. Have guests sign on their “branch” as a keepsake for the baby. “Trees” could be a baby shower theme for the party.
Other baby shower decorations for a family baby shower could include past portraits, baby pictures of Mom, Dad, and siblings, and a history of the family name.
Spend some time thinking about some funny stories from parties past. Like the time the expectant mom tripped during Aunt Edna’s wedding. Or when the new baby’s older brother fell asleep in the linen closet at the Christmas party last year.
Ask your baby shower guests to do the same and come prepared to share. These could be a whoot to retell. Beware: Mommy-to-be may laugh way too hard and cause herself to go into premature labor!
When sending out baby shower invitations, inform your guests that this will be a party for the whole family and that gifts for Mom, Dad and siblings are appreciated in addition to baby shower gifts for the new baby.
A few suggestions for one gift for the whole family. Buy a gift certificate for a portrait. Open a savings account for a future vacation. Or you can buy individual baby shower gifts for each, like matching t-shirts!
No gathering would be complete without a family photo. Make sure someone there has a camera with a timer on it and a tripod, or something that can substitute for one.
Then, once everyone is there, and Mom is ready (she may not feel like she looks so hot, so remind her how beautiful and glowing she is). Get the whole gang together and snap a photo for the baby shower remembrance.
Take lots of other pictures as well to let baby know just how much he or she was loved even before they arrived.
One idea for preserving the memory of baby’s creation is to do a belly casting. You can buy kits. They mainly consist of a plaster of Paris material to use for creating a cast of Mom’s belly. This will show the new little one where they started out.
If the new baby has a lot of young cousins and siblings, keep them occupied with their own special task. Provide them with a large piece of paper and coloring supplies. Either markers, paints, or crayons. Ask them to create a welcome home banner for the baby. Then place it over the crib in the nursery.
You may want to start by providing the lettering. Then let the children color the words and add their own artwork. Don’t forget to include the ‘big’ kids, too. Have all of your baby shower guests sign the banner as well.

Most people who set out to buy a home, be it house, townhouse, condo, apartment, or mansion on a hill, know they need to have a lender letter in hand saying they are qualified for a loan. What most “civilians” (people not in the real estate business) don’t realize is how much the value of a lender letter varies.
Let’s look at some of the general ways a lender letter varies, which sort you want, and how to present it to a seller to put you in the best possible position to buy that seller’s property. If you’re working with a broker, he or she will coach you in these matters. If you’re shopping on your own, and especially if you’re looking at FSBOs (for sale by owner properties), you need to know this stuff.
Lender letters come in two general types, pre-qualification letters and pre-approval letters. The bold print on the page may call it one thing, and when the letter is read, it actually proves to be the other, so pay attention. A pre-qualification letter is weaker than a pre-approval letter.
Pre-Qualification Letter
The weakest pre-qualification letter basically says that “if everything the borrower has told me is correct, he/she is eligible to borrow $XXXXXX.” All you really have here is the buyer’s word paraphrased by a lender. Unfortunately, there is an old adage in real estate that “buyers are liars”. This is well known, so presenting this type of a letter tells a seller you are not in a very strong position with the lender.
A stronger version says “I have looked at an ‘in file’ credit report, and based on that and what the borrower has told me, he/she is eligible to borrow $XXXXXX.” This is still not great, but it is a step in the right direction.
Pre-Approval Letter
The pre-approval letter says “I have checked this person’s credit reports, seen all necessary substantiating materials relative to income…assets…etc., and my firm is committed to making a loan subject only to receiving a copy of a contract to purchase and the property’s appraisal for the contract price or higher.” The letter may not say it, but it is also subject to the underwriting process that includes looking at updated credit information. Regardless, this letter carries a lot of power and sellers will be very happy to see you.
A Word to the Wise
The above discussion of lender letters brings up something you should be keenly aware of as a buyer. Your credit must not change in any substantial way between the time you first apply for a loan and the time you go to settlement on your new home.
If you’re buying waterfront property, do not go out and buy a boat until after you’ve closed on the property. I once saw someone make this mistake and almost lose the property purchase because of it. He had to quickly find a new lender and accept a higher interest rate to keep the deal from going south.
If you’re moving from a small condo to a larger place, there’s the temptation to run right out and buy more furniture for your new quarters. Fine. Just wait until after you’re the proud new owner.
If you are serious about buying a home, a lender letter is a key part of your negotiating ammunition. To save yourself a lot of aggravation during escrow, get a pre-approval letter before you go house hunting.

In the past, body tattoos seemed to be reserved for primal
tribes out of the loop of civilization and sailors who voyaged
far from home in quest of adventure. Neither of those lifestyles
necessarily permeate today’s culture, and yet thousands of
people from every walk of life are choosing to get tattoos of
one kind or another, and sometimes multiple variations to adorn
various parts of their exposed skin surface. Young and old, male
and female, and rich or poor can be seen proudly displaying
words, images, and designs on shoulders, backs, ankles, and even
the face as today’s social climate fosters more tolerance of
this tradition that was perhaps once forbidden or frowned upon
in Western society.
Tattoos are made when the artist uses a sharp needle that has
been sterilized to poke tiny holes in the skin to create a
design of the customer’s choice. Then dark ink is inserted in
each hole to link the holes and bring the design to living
color. These can be tiny rosebuds or huge dragons, depending on
the client’s choice. Some people decorate a small area of skin,
while in others it may be difficult to find a square inch of
un-tattooed flesh.
Tattoos are one way of proclaiming individuality. In the past,
those who wore tattoos might have been considered renegades in
one way or another. But today you can find tattoos on
housewives, teenagers, teachers, and even clergy; it all depends
on an individual’s background, taste, and purpose in choosing to
have a tattoo emblazoned on his or her body.
Those who create body art of this type could be fly-by-night
operators looking to make a fast buck on a fleeting sensation.
But there are those who take their work seriously, having
studied art over the ages or the human body to minute detail.
Their goal is to create a lasting artwork that bears the imprint
of their talent and expertise on the person receiving the
tattoo. These artists are careful to use clean instruments and
maintain a positive image in their studio. Some tattoo artists
are interested only in this artistic expression on the human
body, but others experiment with a variety of designs that
include body piercing, implantations, and variant jewelry to
accent the human-made artistry in a vivid array of hues.
If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, look for a reputable
parlor and someone who has received the license to perform this
work. Look for word-of-mouth recommendations as well, to see if
past customers would consider returning or recommend that others
try a particular establishment. You have just one body, and
tattoos last indefinitely, although they may need to be touched
up from time to time. Take your time, check the local artists,
and make a wise selection rather than rushing into something you
may later regret.
